Heidelberg-based technology company EML and alfaview® under the alfa umbrella
alfaview® video conferencing software extended to include intelligent speech recognition and logging
To expand the alfaview video conferencing software, the alfa® group led by CEO and founder Niko Fostiropoulos acquired the Heidelberg-based technology company EML Speech Technology GmbH in September 2022. With the acquisition of EML by the parent company alfacube, EML now operates under the same umbrella as the subsidiary alfaview.
EML Speech Technology GmbH is a research and development company specializing in automatic speech recognition, and was founded by Klaus Tschira, a physicist and co-founder of SAP. EML develops speech recognition systems based on the latest methods and algorithms for artificial intelligence and machine learning.
With the acquisition of the Heidelberg-based research and development company for digital speech transcription, Niko Fostiropoulos aims to extend the alfaview video conferencing software and to provide intelligent minute-taking and transcription tools for virtual meetings. With EML, alfaview is the only video conferencing platform with its own speech transcription that complies with the GDPR and is made in Germany.
While U.S. providers use tools that transfer the data of European users to the U.S. or other third countries, alfaview is extending its own corporate family and, with the acquisition of EML, is creating the foundation for comprehensive AI language technologies based on the General Data Protection Regulation.
EML will continue to develop state-of-the-art solutions in language technology from its Heidelberg site with the same team of linguists, mathematicians and computer scientists. In addition to the existing on-premise solutions, however, a highly scalable, dynamic and fully GDPR-compliant cloud for EML's language services will be developed and made commercially available.
In addition to implementing the speech technology in the alfaview software, the companies alfaview, alfatraining and EML, together with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias Wölfel) and the University of Hohenheim (Prof. Dr. Jens Vogelgesang), have also applied for a forward-looking research project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), in which the partners aim to demonstrate how the use of virtual rooms can overcome distances and lead to an improvement in the quality of life.
The goal is to further develop EML's technology to enable people from all over the world to communicate in a meeting without barriers, and that different languages no longer play a role due to the intelligent technology.
With the strategic acquisition of the technology expert EML, alfaview Videoconferencing Systems gains a product portfolio centered around the cutting-edge area of speech transcription, which will be a powerful addition to the know-how of Niko Fostiropoulos' group.

Manuals that know more: Better and more cost-effective product documentation thanks to augmented reality and digital twins
Everyone is familiar with the situation: Instructions and manuals that do not meet the expectations and needs of their users. Either important information is missing or it was too late for subsequent changes to be taken into account in the printed manual. In addition, customers need information prepared differently depending on their technical knowledge. As a result, complex manuals are a horror to many users as they are not able find the right answers to their specific questions. See more
